Spadress – Algifoam Calcium Alginate wound Dressing

Description

Indications
• SPADress Algifoam Calcium Alginate wound Dressing is indicated for the following moderate to heavily exuding chronic and acute wounds; pressure ulcers, venous and arterial leg ulcers, diabetic ulcers, cavity wounds, lacerations, skin
abrasions, graft and donor sites, post-operative surgical wounds, superficial and partial thickness burns.
• SPADress Algifoam Calcium Alginate wound Dressing can also be used to control minor bleeding in superficial wounds.
• SPADress Algifoam Dressing can be cut into small pieces and stacked over the wound to cover the entire wound area.

Contraindications
• Do not use on patients with known sensitivity to alginates.
• Do not use on surgical implantation sites.
• Do not use on dry and mild exuding wounds.

Precautions
• Not intended to control heavy bleeding.
• Once the pack is cut open, use the dressing immediately.
• Do not re-use in whole or in part, as it may compromise sterility and/or the performance of the dressing.
• Must not be ingested and must be kept away from children and animals. For use under the guidance of a health care professional.
• Do not use on dry or lightly exuding wounds.

Direction for use
Site Preparation
• Debride when necessary and irrigate the wound site in accordance with standard protocols.
• Remove excess solution from surrounding skin.

Dressing Selection
Select a size of SPADress Algifoam Calcium Alginate wound Dressing that is slightly larger than the wound.

Dressing Application
• Cut using sterile scissor or fold the dressing to fit the wound. Discard any remaining dressing material due to the risk of contamination.
• For cavity wounds, loosely fill ensuring the dressing does not overlap the wound margin.
• Cover and secure the dressing with a non-occlusive or semi-occlusive secondary dressing for example cotton bondage.

Change and Removal
• SPADress Algifoam Dressing can remain in site up to 48 hours. Dressing change frequency will depend on wound condition and the level of exudate.
• Reapply SPADress Algifoam Dressing when the secondary dressing has reached its absorbent capacity or whenever good wound care practice dictates that the dressing should be changed.
• Gently remove the secondary dressing.
• If the wound appears dry, saturate the dressing with sterile saline solution prior to removal.
• Gently remove the dressing from the wound bed and dispose of according to local procedures and guidelines.
• Irrigate the wound site in accordance with standard protocols prior to application of anew dressing
